Movement composition workshop

In March 2017, ESAS hosted an engaging and creative movement composition workshop that brought together artists, dancers, and performers to explore the intricacies of movement in the context of the installation performance, “XALISCO, a place.” This innovative workshop was inspired by the literary masterpiece “Pedro Páramo,” a novel that has left an indelible mark on literature and storytelling. “XALISCO, a place,” directed by Ines Somellera, provided the perfect backdrop for exploring movement composition. This unique installation performance drew inspiration from the magic realism genre. It incorporated texts from prominent Latin American writers, creating a mesmerizing blend of sound, light, costumes, and poetry. During the workshop, participants delved into the rich narrative of “Pedro Páramo,” a novel that weaves together themes of memory, dreams, and the blurred lines between the living and the dead. Through movement, participants had the opportunity to embody the characters and emotions from this literary masterpiece, allowing them to connect deeply with the narrative and its nuances. The workshop offered a space for artistic experimentation. It served as a platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and explore the intersection of movement and storytelling. It exemplified ESAS’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary exchanges, where artists and enthusiasts could collaborate, learn, and create in an environment that celebrated artistic expression and innovation. As participants engaged in the movement composition workshop, they tapped into the essence of “Pedro Páramo” and “XALISCO, a place,” enriching their understanding of these works and infusing their creativity into the narrative. It was a testament to the transformative power of art and the boundless possibilities that emerge when literature, movement, and performance converge.
