The dinner was a cultural fusion, showcasing not only the culinary delights of Mexico but also the literary genius of Juan Rulfo. The event featured a distinguished guest chef, Chef Alejandra Yick Alvares, hailing from Mexico and renowned for her expertise in preparing Mole Poblano, a native cuisine from Puebla. This culinary experience added a layer of authenticity to the celebration, allowing guests to savor the flavors and traditions of Mexico while paying homage to one of its literary icons. But the Literary Dinner was not just about exquisite dishes; it also provided a platform for live readings from Juan Rulfo’s iconic work, “Pedro Paramo.” Esteemed individuals, including Ayu Utami and Rummana Yamanie, brought the pages of this literary masterpiece to life, captivating the audience with their interpretations of Rulfo’s prose. These readings deepened the appreciation for Rulfo’s contributions to literature and showcased the power of storytelling. In addition to the live readings, ESAS exhibited a sneak preview of the visual journey of the book “Pedro Paramo” through the eyes of the talented painter Hanafi. This artistic interpretation added another layer to the celebration, bridging the worlds of literature and visual art. It was a testament to ESAS’s mission of fostering cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary exchanges, bringing together literature, cuisine, and visual arts to create a rich tapestry of cultural exploration.
