Much blame was placed on the shoulders of one woman for the identity of an entire nation. Malinche, a woman from Indigenous Mesoamerica, slave turned important translator of Spanish conquistador, Hernan Cortez, was the ‘mother’ of the sons of bastards, a denigrating vision. To date still inviting much controversy, but perhaps a more sobering perspective is emerging in different corners of the world. ESAS research and observation are taking us to look at not only what is currently occurring in Mexico and Latin America (femicides, etc.) but through our Healthy Discourse on ‘Women and Decolonization’ are looking at women figures in Indonesia (and Asia) from the mythical Calon Arang to historical Ratu Boki from Ternate.
